Authentic Faith in Listening

Scripture:  James 1:19-21, Proverbs 18:13, Proverbs 12:15

Authentic faith is humble to listen before speaking or responding.

We must learn to listen. And listening requires humility.

Seek first to understand, then to be understood.- Stephen Covey

Pride interrupts.  Pride assumes.  Pride reacts.  Humility listens.  Not just to people – but to God.

  • Where do you need to slow down?
  • Where are you rushing to speak before truly listening?
  • Where are you reacting before understanding?
  • Where are you assuming before learning?

Some of our greatest relational and spiritual problems do not begin with hatred, they begin with prideful hurry.

Authentic faith slows down long enough to listen carefully, learn humbly, understand deeply, and respond wisely.

Authentic faith listens before speaking, it understands before reacting, and humbly receives the truth.

PRAY:  God, teach me what I cannot yet see.  Lord, correct what I do not yet understand.  Holy Spirit, help me listen before I react.  Amen

READ THROUGH THE NEW TESTAMENT IN 2026

Join us as we continue reading through the entire New Testament together in 2026!

Our church family is following a simple plan of five chapters each week.  You can join us through the Bible App or pick up a printed copy of the reading plan at the Welcome Center.  Let’s grow together in God’s Word as we seek Jesus throughout the year!
